Batya Erickson is here to help you reach your personal goals!
Batya is a NBCC board-certified LGPC in Maryland (#LGP16665) and in Washington, D.C. (#LGPC200001417). Batya counsels clients through the lens of attachment theory, accounting for early relationships with caregivers and how these can impact present-day functioning, self-esteem, coping mechanisms, and relationships. Through this lens, Batya works with the client to improve their emotional well-being and ability to build healthy and secure relationships.
Batya enjoys working with diverse populations that present a variety of concerns. Batya has worked with individuals struggling with life transitions, burnout and stress, trauma, anxiety, depression, and grief. Batya works with her clients to help them recognize their strengths, feelings of self-worth, and help them overcome adversity.
Batya was born in DC and raised in greater Washington, returning to her DC roots later in life, where she lived for a decade. She received her Master’s in School Counseling at The George Washington University, where she also received specialized training in a variety of fields.
Batya started her career as a school counselor, as she found that children and adolescents often sought her out to help them cope with strong emotions, learning difficulties, and problem solving. What drew Batya to this work is helping people overcome hardship and create lasting change to help people feel better, whether it is acting as a sounding board to help clients talk out a problem, or delving deep into core memories to repair past wounds. Through a strong therapeutic relationship and skill building, Batya believes that anyone can heal and move forward in their lives. Batya believes everyone deserves a “life worth living” and are entitled to feeling a sense of contentment within themselves.
Batya is warm, accepting, honest, and optimistic. She strives to help clients find joy, richness, and a sense of purpose in their lives. Batya’s therapy sessions are a safe space in which clients can fully speak their minds without fear of criticism or judgement. Batya can help you with emotion regulation, communication, and strategies for building healthy boundaries.
In addition to helping people, Batya is an avid animal lover who also helps people with challenges related to pet loss. Batya has been an animal shelter volunteer, serial kitten foster, and the co-founder of a nonprofit partnering with rescues in Asia for several years. Through her experience with animals and their caregivers, Batya has a deeper understanding of the human-animal bond and can appreciate the various challenges when working in the animal welfare field. Often, Batya hears from pet owners how a certain animal or pet “changed their lives” (she is one of them). She believes that this phenomenon is very real and that the loss of an animal companion or pet can be very distressing for individuals.
She is thrilled to be part of the Juniper Blu team and to provide you with exceptional mental health services.
